Vintage 1940’s Trail Glass Beads

VN51E15SET

Strung on nylon-coated steel jewellery wire, these 1940’s graduated trail glass beads are very eye-catching unusual.

Each bead has been made by swirling bright canary yellow molten glass over each white round bead, before the glass cools. These are traditionally Italian by manufacture, although trail glass was also popular in Czechoslovakia and each bead is made individually, so they are all unique.

The beads, which are graduated with the largest at the front, measure from 5-10mm each.  They are separated by graduating acid yellow glass bead spacers.  The necklace measures 47cms (18.5 inches) long, and contains 41 candy stripe beads.

The clasp is a new silver gilt bolt ring stamped 925.  The trigger pulls back to catch, or release, the ring.  The original brass bolt ring was broken but the necklace is now re-wired and secure and in excellent condition.  There is no damage to the beads and all occlusions and swirls are part of the original glass-blowing technique, during their original manufacture.

The necklace is sold with a matching pair of glass bead drop earrings, on gold-plated hook-backs, for pierced ears.
