White Baroque Freshwater Pearls and Green Peking Glass Vintage Beads

PP244ES30SET

This is a remodelled 1930s vintage bead necklace set, which now includes high lustre, white baroque freshwater pearls and occasional green agate oval beads with silver miyuki galvanised glass bead spacers, to add a twinkle to the design.

Hand-knotted on white silk, the necklace is made from 8mm vintage green glass beads.   The mottled green beads, dating from the 1930s, are known as Peking glass, which is a moulded style of glass founded in China in the 18th century.

Originally designed to imitate the beautiful colours of jade, Peking glass was very popular in the Art Deco era, when the ‘Chinoiserie’ design began to become fashionable.  The necklace measures 98cms (39 inches) long.

The clasp is an argentium silver lobster clasp.

The set is completed by a pair of matching silver-plated hook-backed earrings for pierced ears.
