Vintage 1930s Gold Foil Glass Beads
This is a rare necklace and in excellent condition!
Recently strung on nylon coated jewellery wire, these 1930’s golden foil glass beads are a rare colour and quality and are sometimes called ‘cats eye’ beads because of their shining centres.
Each bead has been made by pressing gold foil sheet fragments into the opaline vaseline glass, before forming the final round bead; and all before the glass cools. These are traditionally Italian by manufacture and each bead is blown individually, so they are all unique.
The foil beads graduated in size from 5mm to 12mm at the front. The necklace is long and measures 64 cm (25 inches) The foil beads are spaced with the opaline glass mini beads and capped with the original white metal bead caps. This allows them to bend round the front, without showing the thread. There are 59 foil beads.
The clasp is the original white metal barrel screw clasp and the necklace in excellent vintage condition.
There is no visible damage to the beads and all occlusions and swirls are part of the original glass-blowing technique, during their manufacture.
A simply stunning, rare vintage piece!
The necklace is sold with a matching pair of long drop earrings on silver ball and post findings with butterfly backs for pierced ears.
