Vintage 1950’s White Milk Glass Beads

Fully knotted on original thread, these are 1950’s smooth white milk glass beads.

Milk glass was first used by the Victorians as a ‘poor persons’ alternative to pearls at weddings, but it has become fashionable in its own right, and met with a significant revival in the 1950s.

The beads measure 6mm. The necklace measures 61cms (24 inches).

The clasp is the original flat sliding wedge clasp, with a large white cabochon glass bead decoration.  There is no visible damage to the beads and it is an excellent and striking example of this classic style necklace.

The necklace is sold with a pair of matching milk glass drop earrings on silver gilt ball and post findings with butterfly backs and a pair of large coin shaped milk glass studs, both are for pierced ears.
