Vintage 1930’s Glass Beads
Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide; an opaque, green-banded mineral, which crystallises in fractures and deep underground spaces, where the water table and hydrothermal fluids provide the means for chemical precipitation.
Individual crystals are rare, and it forms mainly in large masses. It has been mainly mined in Russia but can be found in other parts of the world and it is becoming rarer as mining diminishes.
The beads are graduated from 7mm to 15mm and there are 75 beads. The necklace measures 80cms (31.5 inches).
The clasp is the original brass barrel screw. The necklace is secure and in excellent condition. There is no visible damage to the beads and this is an excellent and striking example of beautiful vintage malachite beads.
The necklace is sold with two matching pairs of malachite bead drop earrings, on silver hooks for pierced ears.
