Vintage 1930s Green Pekin Glass Necklace
Peking glass was originally a form of Chinese glassware that originated in the 18th century and was used predominately for snuff bottles and decorative glass items. These beads replicate the original glassware but are frequently mottled green on the surface with a spatter technique.
It was an extremely popular early type and colour of spatter glass. Some say it was used to replicate the green Chinese jade beads of much higher value.
This necklace is graduated; the smaller 5mm beads at the back graduating evenly to the largest 15mm bead at the centre front. It measures 47cm (18.5 inches) with the original brass barrel clasp.
The necklace has been re-strung for security and to preserve the smooth flow when wearing it.
It is sold with a matching pair of glass bead drop earrings, on gold-plated hook-backs, for pierced ears.
