Silver Freshwater Pearls and Vintage Swirl Glass Beads

The pearls have a silver overtone and a particularly good lustre (the surface shine). These pearls originate from China and come from large freshwater mussels.

The silver pearls measure 8-10mm and are slightly oval in shape. The beads measure 4.5 by 2.5mms.  The necklace length is 54cms (just over 21 inches) and has 30 alternating beads and pearls.

The beads date from the late 1950’s and are created with a swirl of two-coloured glass in pale aqua and pink.  The finish has a satin look and changes subtly in the light.

The round silver ball clasp is magnetic, with the two halves of the magnet secured behind the silver case, so they do not pull out, as this is a very secure fastening.  It opens by sliding the two halves of the ball apart.  DO NOT pull on the necklace pearls to open the magnet, or you may break the string.  The two halves of the magnet will ‘find each other’ when fastening behind your neck. It is very easy, if you have problems managing small clasps yourself.

(NB: If you have a heart pacemaker fitted, you must not wear magnetic clasps.)

The necklace is sold with a matching pair of bead and pearl drop earrings, on silver-plated hook-backs, for pierced ears.
